The Ho Hotel, a renovation project by designer Hung-Yu Huang, is a testament to the power of design in transforming spaces. The hotel's lobby, once a simple, high-ceilinged space, has been redefined into a modern, functional, and efficient hub for businesspeople. The design draws inspiration from the interplay of horizontal and vertical lines, symbolizing the convergence of international and commercial spaces. The result is a welcoming environment that embraces visitors from all corners of the globe.
What sets The Ho Hotel apart is its people-centered approach. Despite being a renovation project, the design team prioritized the needs of the people who would use the space. The hotel's theme is gray, with various layers of gray in the lobby stairs, flooring, corridors, and furnishings creating an impressive aesthetic. The design team also retained the natural lighting advantage of the site, striking a perfect balance in the tone of the space.
The hotel's unique properties extend to its functionality. Unlike ordinary hotels, The Ho Hotel caters to businesspeople, providing ample working space for individual meetings or group consultations. The design team utilized a variety of materials, including marble, linear lighting, ceiling molding design, light steel frame trims, achromatic color (black, white, and gray), laminate hard plastic sheet, black mirror, and artificial stone, to create a new style through the renewal of building materials.
The project's design specifications are equally impressive. The 630 square meter, one-story hotel lobby underwent a transformation under the second generation's leadership. The design team added a characteristic dome with long, staggered linear tassels, echoing the installation art below as the highlight. The gray theme emphasizes the space's elegance, and the grayscale tone changes show a multi-faceted and calm atmosphere.
The Ho Hotel's design interaction is another highlight. Whether formal or casual, the project has a neutral and modern concept. The first-floor lobby includes office space for individuals, a multi-person forum, and a sofa lounge. With its high ceiling, the design team introduced bright natural lighting and installed adjustable LED lights at the seats to provide a comfortable experience for customers to relax and work.
The project's success is a testament to the design team's ability to overcome challenges. The commercial orientation of the site differed from the previous one, requiring the team to optimize functionality and create a professional design more conducive to local customers. The renovation process also required more time to confirm the fire protection settings, with the team having to recheck all the fire safety regulations, update and adjust them, and ensure aesthetics.
The Ho Hotel's design excellence has not gone unnoticed. The project was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2023, a prestigious accolade that recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
